  Melissa is very non-emotional when it comes to times of great emotion, she has learned to tune it out,; her father has told her many times that if you go into flight with emotion, you wind up with a dead wingman. Melissa shows a deep fear in her eyes whenever she feels she's going to fail. Melissa is the type of pilot with one hand on the stick and the other on the regs manual, she does everything by the book, so normally she really hates hot-shot pilots. Melissa though is very kind when it comes to another feeling down about themselves, she will do her best to cheer them up, but sometimes her harsh truths only make people feel worse.

Melissa has always been an up and up student in her flight school she attended and had but one problem, her emotional state of being was always very saddening, as if a piece of her died with each flight session. Melissa was so very close to her family and especially her brother, Captain David 'Scary' Dawson died in a dogfight with 3 Kilrathi pilots. When Melissa lost her brother she lost a lot of inspiration that her father once gave her, so she was put on the H1 anti-depressant drug. This drug however modifies emotions and makes a person seem very plain, and unemotional. Melissa will be taken off the drugs when the medical staff of Confed feel she is ready to be taken off of them. Melissa of course with this drug is a very steady, aggressive fighter in the air, she doesn't hold back emotions, whether it be simulated or for real, she really feels strongly about death. In other notes, she has always been noted for her beauty, she is a beautiful girl that turns many heads, though she has never cared for her looks, she has always wished to be an ugly girl and then people would respect her for her talents behind the stick, rather than her pretty face.
